본문의 모호성은 그 본문에 대한 정반대의 해석을 낳는다. 본 논문은, ‘강간’과 관련된 것으로 분명해 보이는 창세기 34장의 디나 이야기조차 세겜이 강간했다는 입장과 강간하지 않았다는 입장으로 정반대의 해석이 이루어지고 있는 현실을 보여준다. 이 두 입장 모두 본문 자체를 분석한 결과이며, 따라서 이론적으로는 상반된 해석 모두가 정당성을 주장할 수 있을 것이다. 그러나 본문에 대한 소위 객관적 분석을 통해 세겜이 강간한 것이 아니라는 해석은 결국 불법적인 폭력의 가해자를 지지하는 결과를 낳는다. 본 논문은 독자가 피해자 디나의 시각에서 본문을 읽어야 한다고 제안한다. 결국 본문의 의미는 본문 자체에 의해 구성되는 것이 아니라 어떤 시각에서 본문을 읽을 것인가를 선택하는 독자에 의해 구성되는 것이다. 창세기 34장에 대한 해석에서, 독자가 피해자 디나의 시각에서 본문을 읽을 때 그는 ‘윤리적으로 바른’ 해석을 할 수 있다.
Abstract
Textual ambiguity mainly due to the narrator's reticent or ambivalent attitude regarding characters in the story results in opposite interpretations on the same text which can, in theory, justify themselves. Although it seems to be clear that Gen. 34 has to do with the story of rape, there are some interpreters who claim that Shechem did not rape Dinah, which consequently supports the interests of the power. This paper, however, proposes that readers should read the text from the perspective of Dinah as the victim of the rape and that the vengeance of Jacob's sons is to be justified. For the meaning of a text is not to be constructed by the text itself, but by the readers who have a choice of which perspective they should take. In the case of reading Gen. 34, readers can do an 'ethically right interpretation' by reading it from the perspective of Dinah.
