본 논문은 안식일 법이 제 2성전시대 유대의 한 변방인 쿰란공동체에서 어떻게 구약에서 신약으로 연속하여 제도화되어갔는지를 추적해보고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 쿰란문서에 나타난 안식일 제도를 안식일 법, 정결례, 제의라는 세 가지 측면에서 살펴보았다. 쿰란공동체는 오경의 ‘노동금지’ 원칙을 더욱 세분화하고, 구체화하였으며, 안식일을 다른 주요 절기와 마찬가지로 엄격한 정결례를 통해 준비하였으며, 안식일에는 특별한 제의행사를 치렀음을 문서들을 통해 증거하고 있다. 쿰란문서에 나타난 안식일 언급은 오경의 안식일 개념이 제 2성전시대에 이미 얼마나 제도화되었는지를 방증해준다. 쿰란문서에 나타난 안식일에 대한 배경지식은 신약시대 예수와 바리새파 간의 안식일 논쟁의 전승사적 위치와 그 논쟁의 엄중성을 이해하기위한 필수적 지식이라고 본다.
Abstract
This paper seeks to trace how the Qumran community, a minority group of the Judean society in the Second Temple Period, continued and institutionalized the Sabbath law from the Old Testament and passed it down to the New Testament era. For this purpose, this paper examines the Sabbath institution from three aspects, that is, law, purification rite, liturgy. The Qumran community subdivided and concretized the principle of 'no work' at Sabbath. Also, they prepared the Sabbath, like any other festivals, by a particular purification rite which was not specified in the Old Testament. The Qumran community had also a special liturgy for the Sabbath, which is in the Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice. The Sabbath in the Dead Sea Scrolls presents that the Sabbath had already been institutionalized in the Second Temple Period. Furthermore, this study throws a light on understanding the background of the Sabbath controversy between Jesus and the Pharisees.
