본 연구는 마가복음 14:27–31과 14:66–72의 베드로 예수 부인 이야기를 서사비평적으로 분석하여, 마가가 베드로를 비난하거나 저주하지 않고 오히려 ‘걸려 넘어지는’(σκανδαλίζω) 인물로 묘사하고 있음을 밝힌다. 14:27–31에서 사용된 σκανδαλίζω의 수동태 형태를 분석함으로써, 베드로와 제자들의 배신 행위가 개인적 능동적 의지에 의한 사건이 아님을 논증한다. 이어 14:66–72에서는 베드로의 예수 부인 언행에서 드러나는 내적 모호성과 갈등을 탐구하여, 그의 내면적 상태를 조명한다. 연구 결과, 마가는 베드로의 부인을 연민과 이해의 시선으로 해석하며, 독자가 그의 내적 갈등과 취약성을 공감하도록 이끈다. 또한 이 서사는 박해와 배교의 위기를 겪던 마가 공동체의 현실, 공동체 내 가해–피해의 복잡한 관계, 디스토피아적 폭력 구조를 반영하며, 권력에 의해 넘어질 수밖에 없는 이들에게 회복과 화해의 가능성을 제시한다. 결과적으로, 걸려 넘어짐(9:42–50, 14:27–31, 14:66–72)과 관련된 예수의 가르침을 통해, 마가는 공동체가 복수를 끊고 화해를 실천하도록 촉구한다. 마가의 베드로 서술은 공동체 내 상호 가해를 예방하고, 부활 이후 갈릴리에서 이루어질 화해 공동체를 향한 신학적 지향점을 드러낸다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine whether the Pauline epistles and the Gospel of Thomas share elements of Gnostic thought. Throughout the past century, the relationship between Paul and Gnosticism has remained a central issue in Pauline studies. Second-century Christian Gnostics such as Marcion and Valentinus claimed to be successors of Paul, and recent studies by scholars like Elaine Pagels and Andrea Annes have revisited the potential connections between Pauline theology and Gnostic ideas. This article first explores the literary and theological differences between the Pauline epistles and the Gospel of Thomas, and then identifies possible points of contact with Gnostic thought. Through this analysis, it is argued that the similarities and differences between Paul and Thomas cannot be separated from the political, social, and religious contexts of their time. Finally, the study reflects on the historical significance and contemporary relevance of the Gospel of Thomas.
