독일 역사 교과서의 동아시아사 서술 특징은 유럽 이외의 역사를 ‘제국’라는 틀로 규정하고 있다. 그리고 현재성과 다문화를 강조한다. 또한, 유럽의 우월성을 은연중에 드러낸다. 독일 역사 교과서의 문제점은 동아시아라는 개념을 사용하지만, 동아시아를 ‘낯선 공간’으로 인식하고 있으며, 한국과 일본은 중국을 다루면서 간략하게 부수적으로 서술하고 있다는 것이다. 그리고 중국을 ‘경계하는’ 대상으로 인식하고 있다. 무엇보다 지나치게 현대사를 강조하는 시대별 서술 비중의 편중성도 드러난다. 독일 역사 교과서에 드러난 동아시아 중국 서술의 주요 관점은 ‘비민주성’, ‘위험성’, ‘오만함’, ‘피해자 프레임’, ‘중국의 성장 원인 찾기’ 등이다. 여전히 동아시아의 지역적 범위나 동아시아를 묶는 어떤 사상이나 공통된 속성, 상징은 합의되지 못하고 있다. 따라서 독일이라는 외부의 시선을 통해 내부에서는 인식하지 못했던 동아시아의 모습을 찾아내는 데 도움이 될 것이다. 독일이라는 동아시아 외부의 시선을 동아시아 내부의 시선과 비교하고 우리 자신을 객관적으로 바라보는 계기가 될 것이다.
Abstract
German history textbooks present East Asian history in the framework of “empire” which frames non-European history in terms of Europe. They emphasize the present and multiculturalism and they also reveal European superiority. The problem with the textbooks is that although they use the concept of East Asia, they perceive East Asia as a “foreign space” and Korea and Japan are briefly mentioned as side stories when dealing with China. And China is perceived as something to be 'wary of'. There is also an overemphasis on modern history and a skewing of the narrative by period. The main perspectives on China in the textbooks include “undemocratic”, “dangerous”, “arrogant”, “victimization” and “searching for the causes of China's growth. There is still no consensus on the geographical scope of East Asia or any ideas, common attributes, or symbols that bind it together. Therefore, an outside perspective from Germany will help to uncover aspects of East Asia that have not been recognized from within. The German perspective of East Asia will be compared with the perspective of East Asia from the inside and will help us to look at ourselves objectively.
