Abstract

The purpose of this study is to convey to the pastors the subject revealed through the interpretation of Deuteronomy 12:1-16:17. To accomplish this purpose, I examined the rhetorical strategy of Deuteronomy 12:1-16:17 based on the theme founded in Deuteronomy 12:2-7. I found two themes in Deuteronomy 12:2-7 analysis. One is to destroy the names of the pagan gods and the pagan gods, and the other is to sacrifice, eat, and rejoice in the place the LORD chooses to his name. The focus of these two themes is to eat and rejoice before Jehovah. Based on these two themes, I examined the rhetorical strategy of the text. The text tells us to remove the possibility of serving the pagan god on the principle of removing the names of the pagan gods and gods (De 12:29-13: 18). In addition, the text deals with the sacrifice of the LORD and the eating of food on the principle of offering sacrifices before Jehovah and eating and rejoicing (De 12: 8-28; 14:1-21). The text also covers the tithe, the year of exemption, and various feasts on the principle of eating and rejoicing in the presence of the LORD. Their commonality is to eat and rejoice before Jehovah. Therefore, the theme of Deuteronomy 12:1-16:17 is to rejoice before Jehovah, not the central sanctuary.
