Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore characteristics of successful intelligence by the types of reach-out program and student’s gender. Further- more, this study sought to present the educational methodology for the promo- tion of students’ thinking abilities and functions. The elementary school students who participated in the global bridge program(n=30) and economically disad- vantaged gifted program(n=40) responded the translated and adapted Sternberg’s Triacrchic Ability Test(STAT). As the results, students participating in global bridge program showed less creative intelligence than economically disadvan- taged gifted students. However, there were no the significant differences in ana- lytical intelligence and practical intelligence by the types of reach-out program. In regard to differences in language, mathematics, and figure area of successful intelligence by the type of reach-out program, there was no significant difference in language area of successful intelligence, but there were differences in math- ematics and figure area. Meanwhile, these differences were shown in girls rather than in boys. It was estimated that girls participating in global bridge program could have more difficulties in exerting successful intelligence. In this context, this study suggested educational implication for encouraging strengths and for compensating weakness in successful intelligence.
