한용운 시의 내용적 특성이 장거리 시행이라는 형식적 특성과 조화를 이룬다는 관점을 전제로 하여 이 논문은 한용운의 시에서 리듬이라는 형식 장치가 시의 내용과 어떻게 조응하는가를 밝혔다. 한용운의 시에서 리듬은 읽기의 속도를 유지시키는 기능을 갖는다. 독자들이 율독할 때 감지하는 속도는 곧 시의 전개 속도와 연결되며, 이것은 시인의 사유 속도를 의미한다. 한용운의 시가 지니고 있는 율동의 실체를 이 논문은 리듬으로 규정한 후, 그것의 양상을 살펴보았다. 한용운 시의 리듬은 시의 내용과 조응하여 역동성을 드러낸다. 수식하는 말이 수식받는 말로 초점화되어 빠르게 읽히는 경향을 분절하는 것이 쉼표의 기능이다. 리듬의 속도가 지연되자, 인지의 속도도 방해된다. 시인의 물음은 읽히는 속도에 비해 더디게 인식된다. 수식하는 말의 과도한 겹침으로 표현되는 주어의 긍정적 속성은 빠른 리듬에 실려 전달되지만, 시인의 의식적인 쉼표 사용으로 그 리듬이 제어되면서 인식의 시간이 마련된다. 고정되지 않고 끝없이 움직여 확장되는 한용운의 인식이 역동적인 리듬에 실려 표현된다.
Abstract
There are two types of rhythm in Han-yongwoon's poetry. The first one is enumeration of the same kind of sentential elements. The second one is repetition of connective endings ‘～ㄴ/는’. In this thesis, the rhythm of the former is achieved by the parallel, while that of the latter by the repetition. The parallel case is limited to that of the succession of nouns with the connective words. Parallel is the repetition of small units, while repetition is that of large units. When they are combined, it can be the third method to manifest the rhythm in Han-yongwoon's poetry. The repetition of the syntactic phrases produces rhythm, indicating the pause clarifying units of the meaning. Moreover, it is intensified by the repetitive endings or postpositional words. They work like visual index of the rhythm. In addition, the repetition of the semantic unit makes rhythm, which is not cut off or broken down by the division of a verse. Thanks to the rhythm of Han-yongwoon's poetry, the acute sense of dynamics does not sink into the tone of tragedy. Reading it silently, one can feel the active movement in it. For this reason, the meaning of his poetry is not fixed.
