Abstract
"As software (SW) and artificial intelligence (AI) education gain importance, addressing disparities influenced by gender and other factors has become a critical issue. This study explores the key determinants of information competency by utilizing the Expectancy-Value Theory. Specifically, it investigates how expectancy, utility value, attainment value, and cost influence information competency and whether these relationships vary based on gender and interest. The study surveyed 233 high school students, dividing them into four groups according to two moderating variables. To assess the moderation effects, a multi-group structural equation modeling approach was employed, comparing path coefficients across groups. The results suggest that expectancy and cost significantly impact information competency. Although no statistically significant differences were observed based on gender and interest, specific pathway variations indicate that different factors contribute to academic performance. These findings emphasize the need for tailored instructional strategies in SW education that account for gender and motivational differences, highlighting the importance of foundational research on learning disparities."
