초록

This study evaluated anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activities of a Angelica gigas, Platycodon grandiflorus Root, and Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Licorice) fermented extract intended for use in the care of problematic nails. As a result of MTT assay cytotoxicity evaluation, the cell viability was 100% at 400 µg/mL concentration. The antibacterial activity of the Angelica gigas, Platycodon grandiflorus Root, and Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Licorice) fermented extract was 0.25, 1, and 2 mg/mL, respectively, as the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albican, and Aspergillus niger. In addition, the RAW264.7 macrophage cell line exhibited an inhibition of NO production in a concentration-dependent manner confirming their efficacy in suppressing inflammatory expression. The results of this study have proven that natural ingredients such as Angelica gigas, Platycodon grandiflorus Root, and Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Licorice) fermented extract can be effectively used as cosmetic ingredients in the care of problematic nails. It is necessary to establish fermentation conditions for mass production and to research the mechanisms for anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity. Further research is needed for systematic confirmation of the efficacy through clinical trial.
