Abstract
Our study evaluated the anti-wrinkle efficacy of the Rubus coreanus Miquel ethanol extract (RMEE). We also evaluated the stability of creams containing varied concentrations of the RCME. In the elastase inhibition assay, RMEE showed 41.45% inhibition. In the collagenase inhibition assay, there was 39.63% inhibition with 10 mg/ml of RMEE. However, both the rates of inhibition were lower than that of L-ascorbic acid at the same concentration. The MTT assay revealed that RMEE had low toxicity and did not significantly affect cell viability. Varied concentrations of the RMEE extract (0 mg/ml to 10 mg/ml) were used to prepare creams. The stability of the creams was then evaluated. The creams formed a water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion. Cream F (10 mg/ml) had a particle size density of 1.69 µm. The pH levels of the creams remained stable and exhibited no significant changes over several days (1, 7, 14, 30, and 50 days). However, cream F had a slightly more acidic pH than that of cream A (0 mg/ml). The viscosity of the cream remained stable with little to no significant changes in the measurements over 50 days. Our results suggest that RMEE might have potential as a beneficial ingredient for anti-aging skin care products. Further research is required to investigate the long-term stability of RMEE in formulations.
