Abstract
In the skin aging process, the skin loses its elasticity and develops wrinkles because the dermal extracellular matrix (ECM) is lost due to continuous UV exposure or oxidative stress. As new anti-aging ingredients become scarce with the advancement of skin cosmetics, we combined various peptides to develop an anti-aging ingredient called OrePep. We confirmed that OrePep possesses free radical scavenging activity, reduces aging factors in fibroblasts, and promotes type I collagen synthesis. The anti-aging effects of OrePep were confirmed with the increased proliferation of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs). Furthermore, clinical trials involving 4 weeks of OrePep application demonstrated visibly improved skin elasticity and reduced wrinkles. Skin density increased and levels of skin melanin also decreased. Together, our results indicate the potential of OrePep as an ingredient to improve skin aging.
