Abstract

The goal of this study is to determine the ideal number of personnel for police investigation team units of crimes against women and juveniles which had been set up recently. For this purpose, this study did job analysis of the team units and estimated the ideal personnel by using a model based on the ideal workload. This study used several kinds of data including survey data from 704 police investigators in the team units, KICS data, data from profiling system for lost children, and internal reports. The findings showed that the ideal number of the team units was 3,272 Therefore, the number of present personnel in June, 2016 ― 2,708 ― was short by 564 compared to the ideal number. The lack of personnel could be improved by revising work process such as non-deployment in case of non-significant incidents. In addition, the separation of duties between the team units and the other investigation team units should be clarified. Finally, specialization of the team units is necessary for the team to play their role well.
