본 연구의 목적은 비행요인에 있어서의 성차를 분석하고 이러한 성차가 비행의 종류에 따라 달라지는지 검증하는 것이다. 이러한 목적을 위해 한국형사정책연구원에서 2018년에 보호관찰을 받고 있는 449명(남자=334명, 여자=115명)의 청소년을 대상으로 실시한 설문조사 자료를 사용하였다. 통제이론, 긴장이론, 사회학습이론, 생활양식이론, 낙인이론 변수들이 비행(음주, 흡연, 사이버비행, 폭력비행, 성적비행)에 미치는 영향에 있어서의 성차를 검증한 결과 두 가지 흥미로운 점이 발견되었다. 첫째, 비행과 비행요인의 관계에 있어서의 성차는 요인마다 차이를 보였다. 즉, 보호자 애착, 사회적지지, 가정에서의 학대경험, 우울은 여자 청소년의 비행에만 영향을 미쳤고, 도덕적 신념은 남자 청소년의 비행에만 영향을 미친 반면, 분노, 친사회적 친구관계, 비행친구관계, 일탈생활양식, 낙인은 남녀 청소년 모두의 비행에 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 비행요인에 있어서의 성차는 비행의 종류에 따라 달라졌다. 예를 들어 친사회적 친구관계가 음주와 폭력비행에 미치는 영향은 여자 청소년에게만 유의미하였고, 흡연에 미치는 영향은 남녀 청소년 모두에게 유의미하였으며, 사이버비행에 미치는 영향은 남자 청소년에게만 유의미하였다. 이러한 결과들은 기존 범죄학 이론들이 일반화의 측면에서 남녀 청소년 모두에게 적용가능한지에 대한 연구가 더 많이 수행되어야 할 필요성이 있음을 보여줄 뿐만 아니라 청소년 비행에 대한 보다 폭넓은 이해와 예방을 위해서는 성인지적인 측면을 고려해야 함을 시사한다.
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to examine gender differences in correlates of delinquency, and explore whether the differences are influenced by types of delinquency, using data of 449 juvenile offenders on probation, collected by Korean Institute of Criminology in 2018. Social control, self-control, strain, social learning, lifestyle, labeling variables are used as correlates of delinquency, and five types of delinquency are included in analyses as dependent variables. The results provide two interesting findings. First, correlates are affected by gender. For example, the effects of parental attachment, social support, abuse at home, and depression on delinquency are significant only for female adolescents, while moral belief affects only male delinquency. Second, gender differences in correlates of delinquency differ across types of delinquency. For instance, pro-social peer affiliation had significant effects on drinking and violent delinquency only for the female youth, and had significant influence on cyber delinquency only for the male youth. The findings imply more research on gender differences in correlates of delinquency and on the interaction between the factors and types of delinquency to examine generalizability of theories as well as to better understand causes of delinquency by considering gender-specific factors.
