본 연구는 청소년 비행과 비행친구 간 인과관계가 성별과 비행의 경중에 따라 상이한지 확인하고자 했다. 비행친구선행가설, 비행선행가설, 상호효과가설을 비교검증하기 위해 ‘한국아동·청소년패널조사 2010’의 초등학교 4학년 패널자료 가운데 5차년도와 6차년도 자료를 이용하여 교차지연 패널모형을 구축하였다. 아울러 청소년 비행과 비행친구에 동시에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 정서문제를 독립변수로 설정하여 구체적인 문제 요인을 탐구하고자 했다. 분석 결과, 남학생에서는 지위비행과 지위비행친구 간 어떠한 가설도 지지되지 못한 반면, 여학생에서는 상호효과가설이 지지되었다. 또한 남학생의 범죄행위와 범죄행위친구 간 관계에서는 비행선행가설이 지지되었는데, 이는 지위비행과 지위비행친구 간 관계와 상이한 결과였다. 남학생의 지위비행은 공격성과 집중력부족이 주 원인인데 반해, 여학생의 지위비행은 우울이 주 원인으로 드러나 성별로 큰 차이를 보였다. 또한 남학생의 범죄행위는 공격성만 주 원인인 것으로 드러나 지위비행 결과와 상이했다. 이러한 결과는 성별과 비행의 경중에 따른 구분 없이 수행된 선행연구에서 밝힐 수 없었던 것으로 현상에 대한 이해가 증가하고 보다 구체적인 정책 마련에 도움이 기대되었다. 향후 여학생의 범죄행위에 대한 자료가 충분히 확보된다면 더 다양한 비교검증이 가능할 것이다.
Abstract
This study aimed to examine whether the relationships between juvenile delinquency and delinquent peers vary relying on gender and severity of delinquency. The relationships were hypothesized into three paths such as preceding delinquent peers, preceding delinquency, and reciprocal. Out of the panel data of fourth graders who had been followed for seven years by the National Youth Policy Institute (aka Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2010, KCYPS 2010), the fifth- and sixth-wave data were fitted into a cross-lagged panel model, which was further expanded to include emotional disturbance as independent variables. Results showed that no hypothesis was supported for male adolescents’ status offense, whereas reciprocal effects were discovered for female adolescents’ status offense. Interestingly, male adolescents’ index offense was supported by the preceding delinquency hypothesis. Results on the direct and indirect effects of emotional disturbance on delinquencies were also different depending on gender and severity of delinquency: hostility and lack of concentration for males’ status offense, depression for females’ status offense, and only hostility for males’ index offense. These findings could not be reported by previous studies without detailed analyses. Data for female adolescents’ index offense would add diverse comparisons for future research.
