Abstract

This study empirically explores the relationship between perceived performance and citizens' willingness to reside in the local government district in conjunction with competitive environment among neighborhood governments at the local level. Based on the analyses of survey in two local governments we found that perceived performance was a significant factor influencing citizens' willingness to reside variable, while the degree of competitiveness among neighborhood local entities turned out to create an environment where high income people think about moving out to a better local government district to get better services. These findings imply that from a high income citizen's perspective, perceived performance and willingness to reside link can be weaker where a local government is surrounded by competitive environment. Detailed findings and implications are discussed for future studies.
