본 논문은 다자간 자유무역 하에서 국제적으로 거래되는 두 개의 차별화된 재화에 초점을 맞추어 쿠르노와 스테켈버그 복점 균형을 분석하고 비교한다. 본 논문은 먼저 다음과 같은 결과를 보여준다. 본국기업은 두 개의 차별화된 재화가 대체재이든지 보완재이든지 상관없이 쿠르노 균형에서 보다 스테켈버그 균형에서 항상 자국시장에 더 많은 재화를 공급하고 외국시장에 더 많은 재화를 수출한다. 하지만 외국기업은 두 개의 차별화된 재화가 대체재일 때 스테켈버그 균형에서 보다 쿠르노 균형에서 자국시장에 더 많이 공급하고 본국시장에 더 많이 수출한다. 그리고 두 개의 재화가 보완재일 때 그 역도 성립한다. 그리고 본 논문은 스테켈버그 선도자인 한 국가의 후생은 두 개의 차별화된 재화가대체재일 때 쿠르노 균형에서 보다 스테켈버그 균형에서 항상 더 크다는 결과를 도출한다.
Abstract
This paper analyzes and compares Cournot and Stackelberg duopoly equilibria focusing on differentiated products under multilateral free trade. We first show that the home firm always supplies more in the domestic market and exports more to the foreign market in the Stackelberg equilibrium than in the Cournot equilibrium regardless of whether goods are substitutes or complements. However, the foreign firm supplies more in the domestic market and exports more to the home market in the Cournot equilibrium than in the Stackelberg equilibrium when goods are substitutes and vice versa when goods are complements. We also find that the welfare of the country is always greater in the Stackelberg equilibrium when it is a Stackelberg leader than in the Cournot equilibrium when goods are substitutes.
