본 연구는 통계청에서 제공하고 있는 광업제조업통계조사 자료를 이용하여 도시-산업의 생산성에 영향을 미치는 외부효과를 분석한다. 우선, 외부효과의 주요 요인인 특화, 경쟁, 그리고 다양성에 대해 설명한 후, 어느 요인이 도시-산업의 생산성을 증가시키는지에 대해 분석한다. 또한 권역별로 특화로 인한 외부효과가 발생하는 산업을 추정한다. 본 연구에서 얻은 주요 결론은 다음과 같다: (i) 특화와 다양성이 국내 제조업의 생산성에 영향을 주는 것으로 확인되었다; (ii) 권역별로 특화산업에 대한 집적경제를 확인하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같은 시사점을 제공한다. 지역의 제조업 경쟁력을 강화시키기 위해서는 권역별 특화산업을 발굴하여 집적시키는 정책이 필요하다.
Abstract
This paper is to suggest that industrial agglomeration in Korea regions encourages manufacturing productivity by externalities. To do so, we first introduce the potential factors of externalities: specialization, competition, and diversity. Then, we attempt to find which factors among them are important to encourage manufacturing productivity in Korea. Next, we try to find industrial clusters where manufacturing productivity is increased in regional specialization. Thorough the regression analysis, we find the following. First, the increase in manufacturing productivity is allied to the rise in two factors: regional specialization and urban diversity. Second, the industrial clusters where regional specialization increases manufacturing productivity are ascertained in each region of Korea.
