A Study on KSL Teaching Plan through Reading Children’s Stories : Using ESL and Schema Theory

As the needs of Korean as a second language is getting increased day by day, teaching methods of Korean are needed as many as possible. Accordingly, this study is aimed at developing a teaching plan, (KSL)Korean as a second language through reading children’s stories using (ESL)English as a second language and Schema Theory generally accepted helpful and useful as a method of reading skill improvement. These teaching approach and theory are applied to foreign students’ reading classes to improve their reading skills, understand them interesting Korean children’s stories, and then give them ultimate motivations to learn Korean. Children’s stories written to be enjoyed for children can be used as teaching materials because the stories are easy and interesting for foreign students to study Korean as a target language. After this plan was applied to the classes, almost all the students showed positive feedbacks.
