Abstract
This study aimed to examine the longitudinal relationships among multicultural families’ foreign mothers’ acculturative stress, neglectful parenting perceived by adolescent children, and adolescents’ school life satisfaction. Data were drawn from the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Survey(MAPS) Phase II, covering a three-year period (2020–2022), and included 1,727 participants. The data were analyzed using SPSS 29.0 and AMOS 27.0, applying the autoregressive cross-lagged model. The main findings are as follows. First, all major variables showed significant positive autoregressive effects across time, indicating that each construct remained relatively stable over time. Second, mothers’ acculturative stress had a negative effect on both neglectful parenting and adolescents’ school life satisfaction at subsequent time points. Neglectful parenting perceived by adolescents also showed a consistent negative effect on their school life satisfaction. However, neglectful parenting did not significantly influence mothers’ later acculturative stress. Lastly, adolescents’ school life satisfaction functioned as a protective factor by reducing later neglectful parenting, while it had no significant effect on mothers’ acculturative stress. These findings highlight the importance of family-based interventions for improving school adjustment among adolescents in multicultural families and underscore the need for psychosocial support for foreign mothers.
