전남 화순 綾州鄕校의 보존 고전적 실태와 교육적 가치

본 논문은 전남 화순군에 소재한 능주향교의 보존 고전적의 현황과 실태를 살피고, 그 가치와 의의를 구명하였다. 능주향교에는 1719년에 養士齋가, 1779년에는 元接廳이라는 두 개의 교육시설이 설립되어 나란히 교육활동을 전개하면서 이와 관련된 전적들이 만들어지고 현재까지 전해지고 있다. 이러한 고전적들은 다른 향교에서는 찾아보기 힘든 것들로 그 가치와 의의를 따져볼 필요가 있다. 첫째, 양사재와 관련된 전적은 총 14종으로 조사되었다. 이들 14종은 다소 일목요연하지 않은 측면이 있어서 비슷한 성격의 전적끼리 다시 묶을 필요가 있다. 즉, 우선 儒案 3종과 井間案 6종을 따로 묶고, 殖利와 절목에 해당하는 전적을 따로 묶어 그 실태를 정리하였다. 둘째, 원접청과 관련된 전적은 총 8종으로 조사되어 양사재와 마찬가지로 비슷한 성격의 전적끼리 묶었다. 그 결과 유안 3종, 정간안 3종, 기타 자료 2종 등으로 묶어 그 실태를 정리하였다. 능주향교의 양사재와 원접청과 관련된 전적의 첫 번째 가치는 다른 향교와 다르게 많은 자료를 보존하고 있다는 측면에서 찾을 수 있고, 두 번째 가치는 이러한 자료들이 서로 연계되어 어떤 과정을 거쳐 운영되었는가를 보여준다는 측면에서 찾을 수가 있다. 특별히 유안과 정간안을 통해 보자면, 양사재는 1719년부터 1908년까지, 그리고 원접청은 1779년부터 1894년까지 존재하여 운영되었음을 알 수 있다. 이는 곧, 18세기 초엽부터 20세기 초엽까지 진행된 전통시대 교육의 한 면모를 보여주는 것으로 그 현재적 가치는 높이 평가해야 한다.
Abstract
This study examined the classical status of preservation in Hwasun Neungju Hyanggyo and its educational value and meaning. The Neungju Hyanggyo had two educational facilities titled Yangsajae which was established in 1719 and Wonjeopchong established in 1779. They led educational activities of the village together and made relevant books, which have been handed down. As it is hard to look for such ancient books from other local schools, it is suggested that their value and meaning should be discussed. First, there were a total of 14 kinds of books relating to Yangsajae. As the books were not properly organized, those with similar nature were put together. That is, this study organized them as follows: 3 kinds of Yuan and 6 kinds of Jeongganan were bound up separately, and Sikri and Jeolmok bound up separately. Second, as there were a total of 8 kinds of books relating to Wonjeopchong, the books with similar nature were bound up together. The books were organized as follows: 3 kinds of Yuan, 3 kinds of Jeongganan and 2 kinds of other data. The first value of books relating to Yangsaje and Wonjeopchong at Neungju Hyanggyo is that this Hyanggyo has a great number of data unlike other local schools and the second value is that the data are connected together and show management styles. In particular, it was showed that Yangsajae was managed from 1719 to 1908 and Wonjeopchong was managed from 1779 to 1894. They showed education of ancient times from the early 18th century to the early 20th century, and its present value should be appreciated greatly.
