이 논문의 목적은 기독교대학 정체성 회복을 위한 대안 제시다. 본 논문이 제시하는 기독교대학 정체성 회복의 제안은 대안채플을 통해서 기독교대학의 선교목적을 회복하자는 것이며, 둘째는 전체 교수가 참여하는 기독교 교양과목을 개발함으로 인해서 교수들의 학술 활동에서 믿음과 학문의 융합을 기하자는 것이다. 본 논문이 대안채플과 믿음과 학문의 융합을 교수들의 학술활동을 기독교대학의 정체성 회복의 대안으로 제시하는 것은 필자가 기독교 대학의 성격을 믿음공동체와 더불어 학문공동체로 규정하고 있기 때문에 믿음공동체로서 규정하고 있기 때문이다. 필자의 인식에 의하면 믿음공동체로서의 기독교대학의 정체성은 기독교대학의 설립이념에 근거하며, 학문공동체로서의 기독교대학의 정체성은 고등교육기관으로서의 기독교대학의 존재 이유에 기인한다. 즉 기독교대학은 대학의 설립이념에 기초할 때 선교하는 공동체이며, 또한 고등교육법에 기초할 때 진리를 추구하는 학문의 전당이다. 따라서 기독교대학의 정체성은 설립이념과 학문성에 근거한 진리탐구의 자유성이 획득될 때 정체성의 확립이 회복된다. 본 논문은 기독교대학의 설립이념인 선교적 사명과 진리탐구의 장인 학문적 공동체로서의 대학의 이중적 정체성을 구현할 수 있는 가능성을 탐구한다. 본 논문이 제시하는 ‘어떻게’가 정체성 회복의 ‘무엇’이 되기 위해서는 기독교대학의 정체성의 위기문제 진단과 기존의 해결방안에 대한 비판적 검토가 재고되어야 하며, 또한 본 논문의 제시가 방법론적인 제안을 넘어선 실제적인 제안이 될 필요가 있다. II,III장이 이를 위해서 할애되며 IV장에서 필자는 전주대학의 경우를 살펴보며 그 가능성을 검토한다.
Abstract
In this paper I will discuss about the way and procedure on how to restore the identity of the christian university. Before dealing with the way in restoring the identity of the christian university, the diagnosis for the identity crisis of the christian university must be confirmed. Chapter II, and III are allotted to diagnose the identity of the christian university and to examine suggestions to restore it, presented by articles and papers. In chapter IV. I present my idea of restoring the identity of the christian university. What I present in chapter IV will be an alternative to that of chapter III. Many articles and papers think of the executive office and chaplain as the one to restore the identity of the christian university. Therefore they demand that the professor must present the service and prayer meeting including the bible study class. They believe that the restoration of the identity of the christian university depend on the faculties’ faiths in the christian community called university. But I do not share with their conviction, and in fact I suspect that they want to turn the academic community into a faith laden community. In contrast to them, I think the faculty itself is the key to reestablishing the identity of the christian university. A university is an academic place for searching the truth. The searching for truth and knowing the truth must be conducted with a certain world view. So, a certain world view is crucial for the identity of the university, whether it is a christian university or a non-christian university. Searching for truth at the christian university must be done with a christian world view. In chapter IV. I discuss the way to focus the attention to that direction.
