기독교수의 정체성에 대한 한 연구

기독교수는세속화된학문공동체인대학과신앙공동체인교회에속한구성원이다. 이두공동체는상호모순관계에있어필연적으로기독교수로하여금역할갈등과정체성혼란을야기한다. 그런배경에서 기독교수의정체성이란이두공동체사이에서생기는갈등과혼란을극복하는과정에서형성되는정체성이라할수있다. 그것은곧 세속적인학문공동체에서기독교인임을드러내는일이며, 교회에서 학자됨을드러내는일이다. 기독교수의정체성은대학의사명이나역할과도밀접히관련되어있는데이는정체성의물음이사회적직무나역할의물음과관계되어있기때문이다. 진리탐구를위한학자로서기독교수는학문적수월성만이아니라일반교수들과는다른연구동기와연구목적을지녀야한다. 학생들의성품을형성하는교사로서기독교수는도덕적탁월성, 즉연구정직성, 친절함, 개방성, 겸손과같은덕목이필요하다. 그리스도인으로서기독교수의정체성은하나님과의관계에서결정된다. 즉, 그가대학에서수행하는일들은단순한직업이나경력이아니라하나님의소명이다. 소명자로서그에게는‘문화위임’(창1 : 27-2 8 ) 의사명이부여되었다. 문화위임이란학문활동을통해학문세계에대한하나님의주권을실현하며사람들의정신을구원하는일이다. 기독교수는신앙과학문의통합을통해서로갈등관계에있는세속적학문 공동체와신앙공동체인교회를상호의사소통하게만드는데기여할 수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the identity of Christian scholars. Christian scholars belong to the two different communities, namely, community of secular scholarship and community of Christian faith. From this they are expected to face the role conflict and the identity confusing. The self-understanding of Christian scholar is forming in the process of overcoming this conflict and of integration of being Christian in the higher educational institutions and being scholar in the church. Their identity as a faculty member is related to the role and mission of the higher educational institutions, namely, researcher and instructor. As researcher for the truth they are needed to have academic excellence as well as the different motivation and goal of research what distinguishes them from their colleague in secular educational institutions. As a instructor for the character formation of students they should have the virtues like as intellectual integrity, hospitality, openness, and humility. For the Christian scholars their working is not merely a job or a career, but a calling from God. This calling has ‘the cultural mandate’(Gen. 1:27-28) for the redeeming of mind. Christian scholars are called to be a double mission-ary, representing the life of mind withing the community of faith, and the life of the church to the community of learning.
