인격과 본성 사이의 경계 - 존 지지울라스의 존재론을 중심으로

초록

본 연구는 페르가모의 대주교, 존 지지울라스의 인격적 존재론, 특별히 인격과 본성 사이의 관계를 검토할 것이다. 삼위일체론적 위격성에 관한 갑바도기아 교부들의 이해에 그 토대를 둔 그의 신학은 인간의 참된 의의와 가치는 생물학적으로 또는 사회적으로 주어진 조건들에 의해서가 아니라 ‘나’와 타자들이 사랑의 교제를 통하여 자유롭게 참여하는 관계에 의하여 구성된다고 주장한다. 이러한 점에서, 사람은 사랑의 상호적 관계 안에서 타자를 향한 외향적 실존을 갖는 교회적 휘포스타시스(ecclesial hypostasis)이다. 오늘날 한국사회는 다양성과 차이에 관한 심각한 도전에 직면해 있다. 본인이 지지울라스의 신학에서 발견한 것은 인격성이 인간 정체성의 내용이라기보다는 인간 목표임을 강조함으로써 파편화된 사회의 연합을 지향한다는 사실이다. 따라서 그의 신학적 견해는 다양성과 차이의 긍정적 의미를 활성화할 뿐만 아니라 공동체 결속을 위해서도 그러한 것들이 요구된다는 통찰을 한국사회에 제공해줄 것으로 필자는 믿는다.

Abstract

This paper examines Metropolitan of Pergamon, John Zizioulas’ personalistic ontology, expecially the relation between person and nature. Based on the Cappadocian Fathers’ understanding of the trinitarian Personhood, his theology argues that the true significance and value of human being cannot be constituted by biological or social conditions but rather by relations that ‘I’ and others freely participate in the communion of love. In this sense, a person is an ecclesial hypostasis that has its being in ekstasis toward the other in a mutual relation of love. These days Korean society faces a profound challenge regrading the phenomenon of diversity and otherness. What I found in the theology of the orthodox Metropolitan is that it aims at the unity of a fragmented society by emphasizing personhood as the goal of the humanity rather than the content of its identity. I believe that his theological perspectives will provide Korean society with an insight that not only vitalizes the positive implications on diversity and othnerness but also requires them for community solidarity.
