Abstract

The purpose of the current article is to introduce theoretical propositions, issues, and research trends on causal factors associated with terrorism. Prior to the 9.11, theoretical propositions, issues, and relevant researches on causal factors facilitating terrorism had already existed. After the 9.11, interests on causal factors associated with terrorism have skyrocketed. Many studies have been conducted and many heated debates and discussions have appeared within various areas of study including political science, criminology, public affairs, and psychology. Thus far, much meaningful accumulation of knowledge has been made. This article summarizes and introduces various theoretical propositions, issues, and research trends related to such accumulation of knowledge on terrorism. Despite the limitation of the current article in that it is not a genuine research but a mere literature review, this article still has a certain merit. The literature review which the current article introduces could summarize the existing knowledge associated with terrorism and guide a future research relevant to terrorism. For doing so, this article could contribute to the knowledge development regarding terrorism.
