한스 W. 프라이의 후기정초주의적(postfoundational) 신학방법론

한스 프라이는 신학을 다섯 가지 유형으로 분류하였다. 유형1은 신학이 보편적인 원리에 기초해야 한다고 보며, 유형 5는 오로지 기독교만의 특유한 종교 경험을 기술해야 한다고 본다. 유형2는 보편적인 원리도 인정하고 기독교의 특유한 종교 경험도 인정하지만 형이상학적인원리를 상정하여 그 둘을 변증법적으로 지양하고자 한다. 유형 3은 철학과 기독교의 종교 경험 모두를 인정하지만 변증법적으로 지양하지않고 그 둘을 중재하고 상호 관련시키려고 한다. 유형4는 전자를 후자에 종속시킨다. 프라이는 바르트 연구가이며 또 바르트의 신학을 미국에 폭넓게 확산시켰기 때문에 그의 신학 유형은 바르트 유형의 신학인 유형 4에 속하는 것처럼 보인다. 그러나 이러한 해석은 프라이가 바르트를 수용하면서도 그와 비판적인 거리두기를 시도했다는 사실을 간과한 것이다. 프라이는 슐라이어마허를 새롭게 해석함으로써 바르트와 비판적인 거리두기를 시도했다. 역사적인 슐라이어마허와는 달리 새롭게 이해된 슐라이어마허를 프라이는 가설적인 슐라이어마허라고 부른다. 가설적인슐라이어마허 이해를 통해 프라이는 기독교 전통 자체를 부정할 수 있을 정도로 철학과 비판적인 대화를 시도하려고 했다. 이렇게 다른 전통과의 비판적인 대화, 의사소통적인 대화를 교차적인(transversal) 방법으로 기독교 전통을 발전시키려고 했기 때문에 프라이의 신학은 후기정초주의적인 신학방법론이라고 말할 수 있다.
Abstract
Hans Frei classifies theology into five types. Type 1 holds that theology should be based upon comprehensive and universal principles, while type 5 does that theology should describe a peculiar experience of Christian community. Type 2 admits universal and comprehensive principles for example as expressed in philosophy as well as a distinct grammar of Christian community that rules Christian form of life, but tries to sublate both of them through a dialectical method based upon a common transcendental philosophy. Distinct from type 2, type 3 tries to mediate both of them without sublating them into a superior metaphysics. In type 3, the former and the latter make an interrelation without losing their autonomy. Type 4subordinates the former into the latter. It accepts the former insofar as the former contributes to describing a belief- grammar of Christian community. The theological methodology of Hans Frei seems to belong to type 4, because he introduced Barth’s theology into the American Society,and had a crucial influence on it. But this interpretation of his theology seems not to take into account the fact that he criticized Barth’s self-contained theology. he tries to amend a historical Schleiermacher through his hypothetical Schleiermacher that actively criticizes the Christian tradition by a communicative dialogue with other traditions. In this point, his theology is postfoundational.
