과학시대, ‘신’에 대한 현대 자연신학의 논의 - R. 스윈번과 R. 스태나드의 신 이해 그리고 신정론에 대한 대답들

본 논문은 과학시대에 신 존재를 논하는 현대 자연신학의 새로운 시도들을 살펴본다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 R. 스윈번의 ‘궁극적인 확고한 사실’로서의 신, R. 스태나드의 ‘초-정신’으로서의 신 그리고 이들의 신정론에 대한 대답을 다루며, 그럼으로써 자연과학의 최신 연구결과들안에서 재해석된 신학적 논의들의 의미와 한계를 제안하게 된다. 자연신학이란 전통적으로는 자연에 대한 탐구로서, 계시와 다른 자연의 빛, 즉 이성 안에서 그리고 그 이성을 통해 바라보는 외부 자연 안에서 신 존재에 대한 근거 제시가 가능하다는 전제를 가진다. 그리고 스윈번과 스태나드는 이러한 자연신학적 전제 아래에서 현대과학을 통해 ‘신의 존재’ 및 기독교교리를 새롭게 해석한다. 2장은 스윈번의 자연신학에 대한 이해와 ‘궁극적인 확고한 사실’로서의 신 이해를 살펴본다. 3장에서는 스태나드의 자연신학에 대한 이해와 더불어 ‘초-정신’으로서의 신 이해가 다루어진다. 4장은 스윈번과 스태나드가 자연신학과 신 이해를 통해 대답을 시도하는 신정론의 문제를 살펴본다. 5 장은 글을 요약하고 이들이 시도하는 자연신학의 의미와 그 한계를 제안한다.
Abstract
This thesis deals with the attempts of modern natural theology to understand and present the Being of God newly in the scientific age. To this end, this thesis uses R. Swinburne’s God as the ‘ultimate brute fact’, R. Stannard’s God as the ‘super-mind,’ and their answers to theodicy. Forthemore and thereby, within the latest research results of natural science, a reinterpreted understanding of God, its meaning and limitation are proposed. Natural theology is traditionally an inquiry into nature, with the premise that God’s argument and inquiry are possible. And Swinburne and Stannard interpret the ‘Being of God’ and Christian doctrine anew through modern science under these natural theological premises. Chapter 2 examines Swinburne’s understanding of natural theology and God’s understanding as the ‘ultimate brute fact.’ Chapter 3 deals with Stannard’s understanding of natural theology as well as God’s understanding as a ‘supermind.’ Chapter 4 examines Swinburne’s and Stannard’s answer about theodicy problems. Chapter 5 summarizes the text and suggests the meaning and limitations of natural theology.
