Abstract
This paper examines the meaning of the universe and the political imaginings represented in North Korean (N.K) science & fantasy fiction(SF-F). SF-F is a literary genre of N.K which imagines national utopias and a sovereign territory through the subjective utilization of science. This paper takes a closer look at the symbolism of space in works published after the 1950s. In SF-F at the end of the last century, the universe embodies the universal nomos, which differentiates its political figurative use from that of the sea. The plot of Park Jong-Ryul's “The Birth” is based on SF-F ideas such as Panspermia hypotheses and the sublime, and overcoming the natural challenges of the universe. In this novel, using a living brain to revive a dead body is a metaphor for socio-political life theory, in which the individual is the collective and the collective is the individual. It is a fictional extension of the SF-F idea of the theater state in which the politics of longing and the march of suffering following the death of Kim Il Sung makes N.K the center of the world.
