커뮤니티연극의 활성화를 위해서는 커뮤니티연극 교육을 효과적으로 하는 것이 중요하다. 그 효과적인 교육 연구를 위하여 본고는 시카고 컬럼비아 칼리지에서는 어떤 교육을 실행하는가를 중심으로, 커뮤니티연극 교육론을 살펴보겠다. 커뮤니티연극에는 특히 교육예술가(Teaching Artists)의 활동이 두드러지는데, 이는 우리나라에서 막 도입된 ‘문화예술교육가’에 가장 가까운 개념인 듯하다. 이들은 이러한 지역사회 활동에 구심점이 되며, 교육을 통해서 아마추어들을 예술로 이끈다. 본고는 이들의 교육론과 방법론(Artistry)을 개진하는 한편, 커뮤니티연극 교육에서 새로운 시도를 살펴보겠다. 구체적인 사례로 최근 부상하고 있는 미디어와융합교육의 실험을 연구하겠다. 결국 교육은 미디어를 활용하여 융합으로 나아가는 추세이다. 이를 바탕으로 후반에서는 실제로 한국에 적용 가능한 교육연구의 커리큘럼 실례를 만들어 보겠다. 그 커리큘럼은 새로운 연극교육의 미디어 융합모델과 결합된 것으로, 커뮤니티연극을 위한 새로운 연극교육 연구의 실례가 될 것이다.
Abstract
The education of community theatre is important for its invigoration. This study examines its educational practices of Columbia College Chicago as a case study. Teaching artists, similar in concept to the Korea’s cultural arts educators, are the center of community theatrical education. They lead community’s amateurs’ artistic efforts. Their teaching artistry and educational methods are explored such as Intention, Warm-Up, Unit Design & Planning, Class Management, and Assessment. In addition, new experiments of media interdisciplinary study in community theatre are examined. Based on these experiments, the author developed an example of media interdisciplinary curriculum for Korean community theatre.
