Abstract
This study investigates the thematic significance of abortion in Park Wan-seo’s novellas Three Days in that Autumns and Dreaming Incubator, with the aim of elucidating how her literature engages with enduring social issues across temporal boundaries. Park’s works reflect a critical consciousness rooted in sociological imagination and reveal the societal irrationalities and inequalities she experienced firsthand. Accordingly, this study attempted to shed light on the meaning of ‘abortion’ in the novels based on sociological imagination and Lacanian psychoanalytic theory. The analysis shows that ‘abortion’ in Park’s novels is not merely a medical act but a motif intertwined with gender issues and structural social contexts, linking it to broader political and societal dimensions. Ultimately, the study provides a concrete case of literary analysis that bridges fiction and social discourse, contributing to discussions on bodily autonomy and female subjectivity.
