신무신론 시대의 기독교신학의 역할에 대한 연구

기독교에 대한 무신론의 도전이 점점 거세지고 있다. 특히 최근이슬람 국가(IS, Islam State)에 의한 무차별 폭력으로 종교가 폭력의원인이라는 공격이 드센 가운데 기독교의 대응이 필요한 현실이다. 과거 무신론은 성경의 전통적인 창조관과 구원관에 정면 대치하는 입장이었고, 시간이 지나면서 기독교적 세계관도 성찰의 과정을 통하여일부 부득불 수정을 가하게 되었다. 그러나 최근 신무신론(New Atheism)은 전통적 무신론보다 정교한이론을 내세워 기독교의 세계관을 공격하고 있다. 신무신론자들은 종교를 표방하거나 종교로부터 기인하는 다양한 윤리적, 철학적 문제 또는논쟁들에 대하여, 형이상학과 인신론, 그리고 윤리적 접근을 통해 전통적인 유신론적 관점을 비판하고 있다. 예를 들어 형이상학적 관점에서신무신론자들은 그 어떤 초자연적인, 또는 신적인 실체는 존재하지않는다고 단언한다. 인식론적으로, 이들은 종교적 신앙이 비합리적이고비이성적이라고 주장하고 있다. 특히 도덕적 측면에서는 종교가 윤리의궁극적인 근거가 될 수 없으며, 보편적이고 객관적인 세속적 도덕 기준이종교적 가치보다 더 중요하다고 강조한다. 필자는 이 글에서 크게 신무신론의 기독교신학에 대한 도전을검토하고, 기독교신학의 역할을 강조하기 위하여 세 가지 요소들을살펴보고자 한다. 첫째, 전통적 무신론과 신무신론의 이론을 검토하고, 그 핵심사상을 정리하고자 한다. 둘째, 전통적 무신론과 신무신론의차이점을 분석하고, 신무신론의 방향에 대하여 살펴보도록 하겠다. 그리고 셋째, 기독교 윤리학적 관점에서 신학의 공공성을 강조하면서 신무신론에 대항하여 어떤 신학적 관점과 책임이 요청되는지 그 대안을 제시하도록 하겠다. 그동안 한국의 기독교학계에서는 무신론에 대하여 조직신학적인관점에서 접근한 예가 있지만, 윤리학적인 관점에서는 거의 없었다. 이 글을 통하여 21세기 신무신론의 등장에 대한 기독교윤리학적인 분석을 통하여 기독교신학 전반에 어떤 신학적 논의와 노력이 필요한지방향을 제시하는 데에 도움이 될 수 있다고 본다.
Abstract
The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the theories of traditional atheism and contemporary new-atheism and to articulate upon how they are to be interpreted in the light of Christian theology. In the discussion of the comparison between atheism and new-atheism, such traditional atheistic theorists as Nicholas Copernicus, Charles Darwin, Sigmund Freud, Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, and Karl Marx are introduced to explore their critical and logical views against God. New atheism, on the other hand, is a political, social and scientific movement that denies divine revelation. The New atheists include Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins. After reviewing above theorists and their theories briefly, this paper comes to a conclusion that Christian theology needs to be newly shaped to create a sense of ethical and moral responsibility in the age of atheism. To achieve this goal, Christian Theology is encouraged to revise the traditional Christian ethics and roles to meet the need of moral standard in the world.
