현대 종교학의 흐름과 목회적 대응

종교에 관한 수많은 개념 정의와 설명들 중에서 보편적으로 사용되는 것은 드문데, 이는 종교에 관한 논의가 그러한 논의를 전개하는 개인의 각기 다른 주관을 반영하기 때문이다. 그러나 일반적으로 통용되는 종교의 정의에 대한 개념 가운데 중첩되는 내용을 중심으로 종교를 조명하고, 현대 종교학의 흐름을 통해 목회적 과제를 점검하는 것이 현대사회에서 한국교회가 자리 매김하는 데에 유용할 것이다. 기독교가 로마에서 공인되고, 또한 국교가 된 이후에는 중세까지 교회의 가르침에 부가하여 종교에 대하여 논하려는 시도가 거의 나타나지 않았지만, 근대 이후 학문으로서 종교학의 실증적인 부분이 강화되었다. 21세기 들어 한국교회와 관련한 현대 종교학의 실제적인 도전이 된 흐름은 4차산업혁명 시대의 과학기술주의에 근거한 무신론과 탈세속화 시대의 무종교현상이 대표적인데, 이는 신앙과 사회 또는 성경의 가르침과 시대적 환경 사이의 균형감각과 공적 소통 및 교류를 요구한다. 그러므로 신앙을 중심으로 과학기술의 발전이라는 시대적 상황을 조명하는 균형감각이 필요하며, 개인의 깨어 있는 의식이 공동체 내 다른 개인과의 연결을 통해 종교적 의미를 실현하는 삶의 실천을 지향하는 생활종교로서 기능하는 것이 요구된다. 그같은 목적을 달성하기 위해서 한국교회는 신학적 연구와 목회적 실천 사이에서 화두를 제공하는 한편, 연구 결과를 활용하여 복음 사역을 수행하는 가교가 되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
Few definitions of religion are universal because there are many explanations involved in such arguments. Regardless of diverse opinions about the concept of religion, it is useful to examine the religious phenomena and the ministerial tasks of Korean churches today. After Christianity was publicly acknowledged by the Roman Empire, few scholars tried to deal with religion but the study of religion has been strengthened after the Modern era. In the 21st century, the challenges of modern religion against Korean churches include atheism boosted by the rapid development of science and technology and the phenomenon of irreligion. To cope with the challenges, Korean churches need to keep a sense of balance between faith and life and have to communicate with society publicly. The Christian religion has to provide a congregation with a sense of balance and function as a lived religion that improves individual consciousness of faith and aims at the practice of faith. To realize such purpose, Korean churches have to provide necessary topics for theological research and implement ministerial practice to preach the gospel in this rapidly changing multi-religious society.
