Abstract
This study aimed to examine the dual mediating effects of executive function and mind reading on the relationship between positive parenting attitudes and peer relationship problems perceived by elementary school children. Because of applying the structural equation model to confirm the path estimate of the final model, positive parenting attitude had an impact on executive function and mind reading, executive function had an effect on mind reading, and executive function and mind reading had an impact on peer relationship problems. Next, bootstrapping was conducted to confirm the mediating effects of executive function and mind reading on the relationship between positive parenting attitudes and peer relationship problems. Thus, executive function and mind reading each have a complete mediating effect on the relationship between positive parenting attitude and peer relationship problems, and executive function and mind reading were found to have sequential mediating effects. This study is significant in that it provides a more detailed understanding of the cognitive-behavioral mechanisms that mediate the relationship between elementary school students’ parenting attitudes and peer relationship problems, which can be used as a means to help resolve peer relationship problems. Implications and suggestions were presented on the basis of the research results.
