학교중단 위기 초등학생 지원방안 탐색을 위한 질적사례연구: 학교 내 대안교실 참여 아동과 부모의 경험을 중심으로

본 연구는 학교적응에 어려움이 있는 학교 내 대안교실 참여 초등학생과 그 부모의 경험을 통해, 학교중단 위기의 아동에 대한 공교육의 지원방안을 탐색하고자 하였다. 학생 2명과 그 부모 2명을 연구참여자로 선정하여 질적사례연구를 수행하였고, 사유(어려움), 과정(지원 경험), 요구사항을 중심으로 심층면담을 하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 학교중단 위기 초등학생을 지원하기 위해서는 세 가지 영역의지원(생활영역의 기본생활습관 형성, 학습영역의 기초학습능력 함양, 관계영역의 또래경험 제공)이 통합적으로 이루어져야 한다. 둘째, 효과적인 지원을 위해서는 부모-교사 협력(아동과 상호작용하는 학교 안팎의 주체들이 모두 연결)을 통해 학교생활을 지지해야 하며, 지자체-학교 협력(영유아기 조기발견, 발달지원과 취학 후 학교적응 지원)으로 연계적 대응이 필요하며, 학교-지역사회 기관 협력으로정확한 진단과 전문적 치료/대응이 필요하다. 셋째, 보호요인 강화를 위한 방안이 도출되었다. 아동의학교생활 즐거움과 또래 관계 개선을 위한 놀이⋅체험 중심 교육활동 강화 방안, 자녀양육에 대한 죄책감과 학교중단에 대한 불안에 시달리는 부모를 지지하는 부모 상담 프로그램의 운영, 학교중단 위기 아동을 지원하는 종합적인 시스템을 구축하여 각종 프로그램이 학교생활 전반에 녹아들어 갈 수있도록 하고, 학교에 대한 신뢰를 쌓을 수 있도록 한다. 제도적으로는 지역교육청을 중심으로 학업중단 예방 사업을 기초학력보장 사업, 교육복지안전망 사업과 연계하여 운영한다. 대안교실을 확대하고, 다중지원팀에게 인센티브를 제공하며, 상담교사와 협력교사 등 인력을 보충해야 한다. 사회서비스 전자바우처, 의료비지원제도 등 경제적 비용 지원도 수반되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This study is aimed to explore different methods in public school education to support children at risk of dropping out of school, using the experiences of elementary school students in the alternative classrooms and their parents. A qualitative case study was conducted with two students and two parents selected to participate in the research, and in-depth interviews were conducted, which focused on the students’ problems, including the reason for them (difficulties in school adaptation), the process of helping them (supported experiences), and requirements. The results of the study show, that three areas of support : the living area: formation of basic living habits, the learning area: cultivation of basic learning abilities, and the relationship area: provided peer experience) must be integrated. For effective support, school life must be supported through parent-teacher cooperation (connecting all the agents inside and outside the school interacting with children), and local government-school cooperation (early detection, developing support, and school adaptation support). Therefore, a coordinated response is required, accurate diagnosis, and professional treatment/response through cooperation between schools and community institutions. In addition, plans to strengthen the protective role which would prevent school dropout were devised. We propose to strengthen the play and activity-centered education in order to improve children’s enjoyment of school life and peer relationships, introducing a parent counseling program to support parents suffering from guilt related to their children’s dropping out or being in danger of it, and building a comprehensive support system. Through those means, all the programs can be integrated into the school life and trust in public schools built. Institutionally, the local school districts should take the lead and operate the school dropout prevention projects in connection with the basic academic ability guarantee project and the education welfare safety net project. In addition, alternative classrooms should be expanded, multi-support teams provided with incentives and staffing with extra counselors and cooperative teachers should be conducted. Economic cost support, in the form of social service e-vouchers and medical expense support should also be implemented.
