슬로베니아의 유로존 가입과 그 의미에 관한 연구

1990년대 사회주의 체제를 벗어난 중·동부유럽의 국가들 중 대표적 성공 모델로 발전한 슬로베니아는 2004년 5월 EU에 가입한 신규회원국 가운데 EU가 제시한 경제통화동맹(EMU)에 가장 먼저 가입한 국가가 되어, 2007년 1월 1일을 기점으로 EU 회원국내 단일통화인 유로화를 쓰는 13번째 회원국이 되었다. 1991년 사회주의 유고슬라비아 연방에서 독립한 인구 약 200만명의 슬로베니아는 자본주의로의 경제 체제 전환과 민주주의 도입에 따른 여러 어려움에도 불구하고, 지난 기간 동안 다른 어떠한 체제 전환국들보다도 착실하고도 건실한 경제성장과 민주주의의 확고한 수립을 이루어왔다. 본 글에선 2004년 EU 신규 가입국중 놀라운 경제 성장을 기초로 가장 먼저 유로존(Eurozone) 가입에 성공한 슬로베니아의 사례를 연구하고, 그 내용을 소개하고자 했다. 본 논문에선 EU 및 유로존 발전 과정과 슬로베니아의 경제통화동맹 가입과정을 살펴보고, 이를 토대로 슬로베니아가 유로존에 가입한 후 기대되는 효과 및 가입조건에 따른 충족 내용 등을 살펴보고자 한다.
Abstract
Slovenia is a successful model among the countries in Central and Eastern Europe which escaped from Socialist System in 1990s. And Slovenia became the first country which joined in EMU(Economic and Monetary Union) among the 10 countries which newly participated in EU on May 2004, and then it became the 13th member of EU nations where Single Currency (EURO) is used from January 1st 2007. Slovenia with the population of about 2 million achieved its independence in 1991 from the Socialist Federation of Yugoslavia. In spite of various difficulties caused by its independence and the change of its economic system, it has so far achieved a steady and sound economic development as well as the establishment of the firm democracy. In this paper, I research about Slovenia which firstly joined in Eurozone and achieved an outstanding economic development among the countries which newly joined EU in 2004. Especially I survey the process of joining in EU and EMU of Slovenia. and based on this, I study the sufficient condition of the join and the effects which will be expected after its joining in Eurozone.
