경국대전(經國大典)의 성립배경과 체제

Abstract

A proper cause was required in transformation from Goryeo to Joseon dynasty and it was crucial to reform the system and to establish new order suitable for changes of the time to firm the foundation of the new dynasty. To do this, the need of a new code, which was the most critical foundation to manage the country, was raised. After Gyeonggukdaejeon(經國大典) was legislated and proclaimed during the King Seongjong, Joseon dynasty was operated with this huge system as its center. Gyeonggukdaejeon was the fruit of effort to make a unifying and lasting code and it had a meaning that the royal authority was strengthened which had been sought by King Sejo and they established a unifying code system supporting the consolidation of the crown. Therefore, it can be said that Joseon completed the dynasty's political system integrated by Gyeonggukdaejeon system through the phased reform process as principles of national politics and political management were settled. Gyeonggukdaejeon has its significance that it was an administrative law stipulating the Joseon's basis and it established a written law appropriate for its social customs by utilizing the Chinese six codes of Zhouli(周禮). It also has a historical meaning in law to be a ruling code reflecting a Confucian ideology of religion and politics.
