Abstract
This paper conducts a comparative analysis of Mom’s Stake by Park Wan-suh and The Flowers of War by Yan Geling, focusing on how Korean and Chinese women writers literarily reconstruct war trauma and memory. Rather than merely depicting the brutality of war, both works adopt retrospective narrative structures, symbolic spatial representations, and portrayals of ethical relationships to explore the multifaceted experiences of female subjects amid historical catastrophe. Employing a trans-East Asian comparative literary perspective, this study examines the shared emotional structures and politics of memory in Korean and Chinese women’s war literature, while also highlighting divergent narrative strategies shaped by differing cultural contexts. Ultimately, this paper argues that such memory narratives by women not only challenge state-centered historical discourse but also serve as a cultural practice for ethical reflection, empathetic imagination, and transnational dialogue.
