A Study on the Usage of Korean Conjunctive Particles for English Speaking Foreign Learners

For practical and effective education on the usage of Korean conjunctive particles for English-speaking foreign learners, this study described the usage of Korean conjunctive particles systematically according to the syntax-semantic characteristics and comparison with usage of English conjunctive particles, suggested as the target word on the conjunctive particle type of repetitive usage in a combined form with substantives. This study was intended for conjunctive particles which are used repetitively more than twice in one sentence as <N1-conjunctive particle N2-conjunctive particle>. The conjunctive particles of <list>class and <selection>class show a syntactic characteristic of not requiring repetitive usage, and they are classified into three sub-classes according to the distribution possibility and semantic characteristic of case particles again. The conjunctive particles of <addition> class have high essentiality of repetitive usage, and they were classified into two classes again according to the realizability in negative sentences. Therefore, this study classified the 13 classified postposition types of repetitive use into 5 sub-classes. This is not only useful as a teaching material on the usage of Korean conjunctive particles for English-speaking Korean learners, but also has significance as a subject of comparative research on Korean conjunctive particles and English conjunctive particles.
