‘운동하는 장애인’에 대한 장애인 체육 분야 종사자의 인식 유형 탐색

본 연구는 장애인 체육 현장에 근무하는 종사자들이 지닌 ‘운동하는 장애인’에 대한 인식과 태도를 살펴보고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 주관성 연구 방법인 Q 방법론을 채택하였으며, 장애인 체육활동 프로그램을 운영·관리하는 장애인체육회 및 시설관리공단 종사자 32명을 대상으로 설문지를 배포·회수하여 자료를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, ‘운동하는 장애인’에 대한 체육 종사자의 인식유형은 크게 세 가지로 도출되었다. 첫 번째 유형은 운동하는 장애인을 ‘도움이 필요한 수동적 주체’로 인식하는 유형이다. 제1유형의 참여자는 위험성이 따르는 스포츠 활동에 참여하는 운동하는 장애인을 주위의 도움과 관심이 필요한 수동적 존재로 인식하고 있다. 해당 유형의 참여자가 과반이라는 점은 중요한 시사점을 제공한다. 두 번째 유형은 운동하는 장애인을 ‘독립적이며 능동적 주체’로 인식하는 유형이다. 즉, 능동적이고 독립적인 주체로써 운동하는 장애인이 장애(인)에 대한 사회적 인식을 개선하는 긍정적 영향을 준다고 인식하고 있다. 세 번째 유형은 운동하는 장애인을 ‘한계를 극복한 슈퍼크립’으로 인식하는 유형이다. 이처럼 제1유형과 제3유형과 같이 대부분의 체육 분야 종사자는 운동하는 장애인에 대한 편협한 시각을 지니고 있음이 확인되었다. 본 연구는 ‘운동하는 장애인’을 어떻게 인식하는지에 따라 장애 편견 혹은 장애 수용과 관련한 태도가 달라진다는 측면에서, 체육 종사자의 편합한 인식이 운동하는 장애인에게 장애를 구조화하는 요인으로 작용할 수 있다는 결론을 도출하였다.
Abstract
This study was conducted to explore workers’ perceptions on attitudes toward ‘exercisers with disabilities’, who engage in the field of sport disability. To this end, it adopted the Q methodology, a subjective study method and distributed questionnaires to and collected them from 32 workers in the athletic association and the facility management corporation, which operate/manage the disability sports programs, and analyzed the data of them. The findings show that the types of sports workers’ perceptions on ‘exercisers with disabilities’ were largely divided into three. The first type perceives the exercisers with disabilities as ‘passive subjects in need of aid’. The second type perceives the exercisers with disabilities as ‘independent and active subjects’. The third type perceives the exercisers with disabilities as ‘super creeps overcoming their limits’. It is thus found that most of sports workers such as the type 1 and the type 2 have narrow-minded views on exercisers with disabilities. This study concluded that sports workers’ narrow-minded perceptions may act as a factor which frames disabilities of the disabled, in that stigma against or acceptance of disabilities depend on how they perceive the ‘exercisers with disabilities’.
