본 연구의 목적은 질적연구 방법 중 내러티브 탐구를 통해 청각장애인의 동호회 입문과 동호회 참여의도 및 상호작용 속에서나타나는 공통된 특징에 대해 심층적으로 알아보기 위함이다. 이를 위해 S시와 A시에 위치한 청각장애인 야구 동호회 소속의동호인 4명을 연구참여자로 선정하여, 내러티브 탐구 방법에 따라 참여 관찰과 심층 면담을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 범주화과정을 통해 분석되었으며, 그 결과 사회적 소외, 상호작용과 포용의 문화, 참여의도와 지속동기라는 세 가지 핵심 주제가 도출되었다. 참여자들은 비장애인 사회에서 경험한 소외와 단절을 야구 동호회를 통해 극복하며 ‘야구인’으로서의 새로운 정체성을형성하고 있었다. 본 연구는 청각장애인의 스포츠 참여 활성화를 위한 정책적・실천적 함의와 함께, 향후 다양한 감각장애인의체육활동 참여를 위한 기반 마련의 필요성을 시사한다.
Abstract
This study aimed to explore the experiences of deaf individuals regarding their entry into and participation in sports clubs, with a particular focus on participation intention and interpersonal interaction, through narrative inquiry, a qualitative research method. To this end, four members of baseball clubs for deaf individuals located in S City and A City were selected as participants. Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews and analyzed using a categorization process. Three core themes emerged: social exclusion, a culture of interaction and inclusion, and intention and motivation for continued participation. The participants overcame experiences of marginalization and disconnection within the non-disabled society and formed new identities as "baseball players" through their involvement in the sports clubs. This study provides practical and policy implications for promoting participation in sports among individuals with hearing impairments and highlights the need to develop foundational strategies to support physical activity engagement among people with various sensory disabilities.
