본 논문은 李震相의 『春秋集傳』을 주요 텍스트로 삼아서, 이진상의 춘추학이 지닌 학문적 특징을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 책은 『춘추』 분야의 성리학적 이론을 종합함으로써 『춘추』를 통해 조선조 성리학의 특징을 살펴볼 수 있는 중요한 자료이다. 이진상은 주자의 시각에서 기존의 대표적인 주해서의 장점을 선별하고, 부족한 부분은 주자의 이론으로 절충했으며, 거기에 자신의 의견을 덧붙여서 주자가 못 다한 뜻을 보완하는 형식으로 책을 구성하였다. 이를 통해 이진상은 주자의 이론에 기반한 성리학적 춘추학의 전형을 확립하려고 시도하였다. 본 논문에서는 두 가지 측면에서 이진상의 그러한 구상의 실체를 밝히는 작업을 수행하였다. 먼저 이진상은 성리학적 관점에 입각하여 『춘추』의 성격을 규정함으로써 자신의 책이 성리학에 기반한 춘추학임을 분명하게 표명하였다. 다음으로 주자의 이론에 근거하여 『춘추』의 대표적인 주해서인 四傳의 장점을 취사선택함으로써 『춘추』의 주자적 해석을 지향하였다. 이를 통해 이진상이 성리학적 관점과 주자 이론을 근간 으로 하는 성리학적 춘추학의 이론 체계를 구축하려고 한 것을 알 수 있다.
Abstract
With Lee Jinsang's Chunchujipjeon as the main text, this study is to clarify scholarly features of Lee Jinsang's Chunqiuxue. This work is a synthesis of Neo-Confucian theories in the field of Chunqiu and a critical data which facilitates examining characteristics of Neo-Confucianism in Chosŏn period. As to composition of the book, Lee Jinsang sorted strengths of existing representative commentaries in the view of Zhuxi; compromised insufficient elements with Zhuxi's theories and; added his own opinions to supplement what Zhuxi missed out. Through the work, Lee Jinsang attempted to establish the archtype of Neo-Confucian Chunqiuxue based on Zhuxi's theory. This study clears up the actuality of Lee Jinsang's such conception in two aspects. First, Lee Jinsang defined characteristics of Chunqiu based on Neo-Confucian viewpoint and clearly indicated that his book is Neo-Confucianism-based Chunqiuxue. Then, he properly selected advantages of Four Biographies(四傳), a representative commentary to Chunqiu, in order to seek Chunqiu interpretation with Zhuxi's perspective. It implies that Lee Jinsang tried to establish a theoretical system of Neo-Confucian Chunqiuxue rooted in Neo-Confucian viewpoint and Zhuxi theory.
