이 논문은 조선시대 풍토기의 역사적 흐름을 조망하면서 『삭방풍토기』의 특징과 역사적 위상을 구명하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 홍양호의 저술 중의 하나인 『삭방풍토기』는 18세기 북방 지역의 풍속과 생활, 산천 등을 본격적으로 다룬 최초의 저술로 서 중요한 의의를 지닌다. 지금까지 연구자들은 1843년 간행 문집에 수록된 『북새기략』을 연구 자료로 활용해 왔지만, 최근 『북새기략』은 홍양호 단독의 저술이 아님이 밝혀졌다. 지금까지 『북새기략』에 근거하여 홍양호를 연구했던 성과들은 일정 정도 조정이 필요하다. 『북새기략』에는 홍양호 이외에 홍경모의 입장과 생각이 반영되어 있기 때문이다. 이렇게 보았을 때에 홍양호의 저술임이 분명한 『삭방풍토기』에 초점 을 맞추어 새롭게 연구를 진행되어야 할 것이다. 이 논문에서는 ‘풍토기’를 하나의 유 형으로 설정하고, 조선시대 전시기를 걸쳐 산출된 풍토기 작품들을 전반적으로 살펴 보면서 그러한 역사적 흐름 속에서 홍양호의 『삭방풍토기』가 어떠한 특징적 면모를 지니고 있는지를 검토하고, 나아가 『삭방풍토기』가 갖는 역사적 위상을 밝혔다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper was to investigate the characteristics and historical status of Sakbangpungtogi while looking at the historical flow of Pungtogi during the Joseon Dynasty. One of Hong Yang-ho's writings, Sakbangpungtogi is significant as the first work to deal in earnest with the customs, life, and mountains and rivers of the northern region in the 18th century. Until now, researchers have used Buksaegiryak, which was included in a collection of works published in 1843, as research material, but it has recently been revealed that Buksaegiryak was not solely written by Hong Yang-ho. The results of research on Hongyangho so far based on Buksaegiryak require some adjustment. This is because the positions and thoughts of Hong Gyeong-mo, in addition to Hong Yang-ho, are reflected in Buksaegiryak. In this regard, it is necessary to conduct new research focusing on Sakbangpungtogi which is clearly written by Hong Yang-ho. In this paper, Pungtogi is set as a type, and by looking at the Pungtogi works produced throughout the war period of the Joseon Dynasty in general, it examines what characteristic aspects Hong Yang-ho's Sakbangpungtogi has within such historical trends, and furthermore, The historical status of Sakbangpungtogi was revealed
