During the recent years, there exists a great concern about the environmental issue globally. Japan is without the exception either. Japanese government for some years, with a view to keeping its promises as jointly agreed in the Kyoto Protocol, has been positively developing the environment‐friendly appliances, like fuel‐efficient car, solar power generation, wind power generation, desulfurization equipments and etc. This paper deals with the rise of eco car and energy‐efficient home appliances, the development of photovoltaic and wind power business, and government‐led environment business promotion and the rise of recycling business. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to provide with the information pertaining to background factors regarding the rise of eco car and energy‐efficient home appliance, government‐led environment business promotion, recycling business in Japan as well as the importance of international cooperation for an environmental sustainability globally.
