Dazaihu Diplomacy of Japan and Its Character in the 770s: Focused upon Diplomatic Relations with Balhae

The Japanese request of Balhae's entrance to the Dazaihu(대재부) ports around 770 period showed that Balhae and Dazaihu went for trades and the diplomatic relations between Balhae and Dazaihu was actively absorbed by Balhae. However, it was difficult to the Dazaihu Diplomacy of Japan to result in smooth trades because of the difficulties of large-scale human and material damages. From this perspective, This article investigates Dazaihu Diplomacy of Japan In the late 8th century as follows. First, I analyse the background of Japan in her turnover to trade-focused diplomacy by her suggesting Dazaihu. Second, the survey of the diplomatic funtion of the Dazaihu, a local government organizatinn of ancient Japan. I investigate the the Dazaihu is the institution of trades of Japan. This article finds out the diplomatic meaning in the the resuit of this diplomatic policy promoted Japanese policies to Balhae mainly driven by northern contient(북륙도).
