초록

Global history is a loudly-proclaimed concept in the newly published world history textbooks for the secondary education. One community and global integration are the leading words in the guide line for writing world history textbooks as well. It seems to make sense to review world history textbooks from transnational perspective, because transnationalism re-locates the nation in a global context, with the nation taken as the core of its interest. Intercepted between global history and national history paradigm, transnationalism would provide the perfect place to review the connectedness between the both paradigms. By and large, the three world history textbooks this article reviewed showed a unconformity with the concept of global history, because they take as the main narrative code the modernism on the one hand, the nation state system on the other hand. This paper addressed two criticisms upon this narrative strategy. One is against the predominance of a narrative structure which operates in tune with the global integration based upon the Western modernity. The other is against the plot which is overwhelmed by the nation as the product of the project of the European modernity.
