취재 영역 및 보도 형태별 뉴스 심층성 연구 - 한·미 신문 1면 기사에 나타난 투명 취재원, 복합 관점, 이해 당사자 비교를 중심으로-

본 논문은 6개의 한국 신문과 2개의 미국 신문 1면 기사 비교를 중심으로, 양국 뉴스의 심층성을 탐구했다. 연구는 ‘투명 취재원,’ ‘복합 관점,’ ‘4명 이상의 이해 당사자’를 적시성, 공정성과 균형성 등을 아우르는 심층성의 확인 지수로 삼고, 미국 신문을 1면 한정 기사와 간지 포함 1면 기사로 구분해 한국 신문 1면 기사와 비교하는 방식으로 진행됐다. 양국 신문 기사를 전체, 취재 영역별, 보도 형태별로 나눠 뉴스의 깊이를 조사한 결과, 한국 신문 1면 기사는 미국 신문 1면 한정 기사에 비해 전체, 경제 및 국제 취재 영역, 경성 및 기사구조의 혼합 보도 형태에서 3개 심층성 요인 중 투명 취재원을 더 많이 활용한 것으로 나타났다. 반면 미국 신문 간지 포함 1면 기사는 한국 신문 1면 기사에 비해 연성, 내러티브, 기사 구조의 복합 보도 형태를 제외한 모든 취재 영역 및 보도 형태에서 3개 심층성 요인이 모두 높게 나타났다. 논문은 한국 기사가 특히 공정성과 균형성 부분에서 미국 기사에 뒤처진다고 지적하는 한편, 연구에 사용된 3가지 지수 이외에 뉴스 심도를 측정하기 위한 다양한 요인들이 개발돼야 한다고 제안했다.
Abstract
This study explores the depth of reporting and writing of front page news stories by comparing 6 Korean and 2 American newspapers. By distinguishing the stories in reporting areas and writing styles, the paper analyzes their attribution, fairness and balance with the tool of 'reporting index' which consists of transparent sources, mixed viewpoints, four-plus stakeholders. The results show that Korean news stories only use more transparent sources in 'politics' and 'international' reporting areas and 'hard' and 'mixture of inverted pyramid·modified inverted pyramid·narrative' news writing styles when compared with the limited contents of American news stories appearing on page 1, while full contents of American news stories use all three kinds of factors more than Korean news stories in most reporting areas and writing styles. The paper points out that Korean news stories are inferior to American newspapers specifically in the sense of fairness and balance, and it recommends the development of new factors of reporting index for further analysis.
