본 연구는 여성의 근대를 읽는 하나의 방법론적 제안이자, 이 방법론을 활용하여 근대여성사를 재구성하려는 시도이다. 지금까지의 인식론적 역사관에 기반한 거대담론으로의 역사는 암묵적으로 남성을 주체로 설정하고 젠더 개념을 탈각한 채 이를 보편사로 가장한 그들의 역사로, 여성들은 언제나 타자로서 주변화되어 다루어져왔다. 많은 학자들이 비가시적 주체인 여성을 역사에 등장시켜야 한다는 점에는 동의하지만 뚜렷한 대안을 제시하지는 못하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서 제시하는 방법론적 제안은 두 가지이다. 하나는 역사에 대한 접근 방식의 전환으로 미학적 성찰성을 논의한다. 다른 하나는 역사를 읽는 텍스트의 전환으로 이미지로 역사읽기를 시도한다. 이는 몸에 대한 선행연구들이 주로 응시주체인 남성의 시각으로 대상화된 몸의 재현 이미지에 치우쳐 있는 한계를 극복하여 여성 주체가 체험한 근대를 재사유하려는 것이다.
Abstract
This study is a methodological proposal to examine women’s modern, and also a trial to reorganize women’s history by using a method proposed in this paper. Women have always been regarded as the other, as history, a meta-narrative based on epistemological view on history so far, implicitly set men as subject without gender perspective. While many scholars agree that women, invisible subject of history, should be appeared in history, cannot propose clear alternatives. Therefore, this study proposes two alternative methods. First, aesthetic reflexivity is discussed as a transition of approach to history. Second, this study tries to read history with image by transiting of text for read history. This is because previous researches on body mainly focus on representation of body image that is objectified by men’s view who are subject of gaze and has an intention to rethink modernity that has been experienced by women by overcoming this limitation.
