Kang Yu Wei's ideological system has a representative characteristic of Chinese ideology, and his Datong ideology embodies the socio-political consideration of traditional Confucianism and has the main ideological characteristic of the transition period. The purpose of this article is to explore the modern evolution of the Confucian "great harmony" idea through a concrete analysis of Kang Yu Wei's theory of mercy. The scope of Kang Yu Wei's ‘conversational harmony’ ideology is not limited to Confucianism but has both Buddhist and Western social ideas. The rationale for his thinking is based on "mercy." His mercy is somewhat different from the traditional Confucian mercy; therefore, he gave a unique interpretation of the Confucian concept of "mercy". This shows the modern transformation of Confucianism in modern China. This paper briefly summarizes the origins of the Chinese "great harmony" ideology and the "utopian" character of Confucianism. Then, it explore the characteristics and significance of Kang Yu Wei's mercy.
