제약기업의 R&D투자가 노동생산성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

본 연구의 목적은 R&D투자가 제약기업의 성장에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위한것이다. 구체적으로 R&D투자가 제약기업의 노동생산성에 어떤 영향을 미치며, 어떤 요인의 영향을 많이 받는지 성장회계모형과 2SLS 기법을 이용하여 실증적으로 분석한 것이다. 그 결과는 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있다. 첫째, 성장회계모형을 이용하여 분석한 결과, R&D투자는 노동생산성에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, R&D투자와 제약기업의 노동생산성 사이의 변수간 내생성을 고려한 2SLS 분석에서도 R&D투자는 제약기업의 노동생산성에 정(+)의 영향을 미친다는 점을 확인하였다. 둘째, R&D투자의 시차를 고려하여 분석한 결과 국내 제약기업의 R&D투자는 장기간 비용이 소요되는 신약개발 보다는 단기간의 수익추구를 위한 개량신약 및 제네릭(복제) 의약품에 대한 단기성 R&D투자를 주로 수행하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, R&D투자에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석한 결과R&D투자는 재무적인 요인 뿐 아니라 산업구조와 기업의 규모 등에 영향을 받는다는 것을 확인하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the economic impact of R&D investment in Korean Pharmaceutical firms. To be specific, this paper analyzes the impact of R&D investment in Korean Pharmaceutical firms on labor productivity and, identifies the factors which have an influence on the level of R&D investment. The result of this analysis can be summarized as follows. First, R&D investment has a positive impact on labor productivity. This finding is supported not only by growth accounting analysis but also by 2SLS analysis, which considers the endogenity of explanatory variables. Second, domestic 50 Pharmaceutical firms have a tendency to focus on short-term R&D activity such as the development of generic medicine, not on long-term activity such as the development of new medicine. Third, it is also found that the level of R&D investment is affected not only by financial factors such as the level of debt, but also by industrial structure and firm’s size.
