국내 제약기업의 효율성 및 효율성 결정요인에 대한 연구

본고의 목적은 국내 51개 제약기업을 대상으로 DEA 모형을 이용하여 2003～2013년까지 11년간제약기업의 총기술효율성, 순수기술효율성과 규모효율성을 측정하고, 이를 바탕으로 이들 효율성을 결정하는 가장 중요한 요인이 무엇인지를 분석하는 것이다. 그 결과는 다음과 같이 정리할수 있다. 첫째, 분석기간 동안 국내 제약기업은 순수기술에 의한 효율보다 적정규모에 대해더 효율적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 분석기간을 구분하여 살펴본 결과, 2010년 이후의 효율성이더욱 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 국내 제약기업의 효율성에 있어서 R&D 투자와 기업의자기자본비율이 가장 중요한 요인으로 나타났으나, 기업의 규모는 효율성에 부의 영향을 미치는것으로 나타났다. 이런 분석을 기반으로, 제약기업의 효율성 제고를 위해서는 R&D 투자를 장려하고 기업의 재무건전성을 강화해야할 필요가 있는 것으로 보여진다. 나아가 제약기업 간의시너지 확대를 위해서는 M&A를 장려하는 정책방안이 필요하나, 그 M&A가 단순히 규모를 확대하기 보다는 규모의 경제성을 이루고 효율성을 향상 시키는 방향으로 이루어질 필요가 있는것으로 보여진다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is, first of all, to analyze the efficiency of Korean pharmaceutical industry during 11 years (2003～2013), total technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency, by using the method of Data Envelope Analysis, and secondly to identify the factors which have significant impact to efficiency. The result of analysis can be summarized as follows. First, scale efficiency is more important than pure technological efficiency in korean pharmaceutical industry. Secondly, the level of efficiency of Korean pharmaceutical industry after 2010 has been increased more than that of the former period. Thirdly, the most important factors for influencing total technical efficiency are ratio of equity capital to total capital and R&D investment. However, the firm size seems to have negative impact on the level of efficiency. Thus, it would be desirable for korean pharmaceutical firms to increase the level of R&D investment and to increase ratio of equity capital to total capital in order to improve the level of efficiency. And, although the policy to promote M&A among pharmaceutical firms is desirable, it should be promoted in the way of improving economies of scale leading to the increase of efficiency.
