Abstract
This study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the distributive meaning observed in echo words in both Korean and Mongolian by contrasting the markers that distinguish distributivity and plurality in each language. Specifically, it examines the morphological and syntactic characteristics as well as the semantic functions of these distributive expressions. In Mongolian linguistics, research on the syntactic characteristics of reduplication has traditionally been addressed only from a morphological perspective, with relatively little attention paid to its semantic and syntactic aspects. In contrast, Korean reduplicative expressions have been extensively analyzed in terms of how distributive markers indicate distributional criteria, including the scope and degree of distribution.A key difference between Korean and Modern Mongolian echo words from a morphological and syntactic perspective is that, in Korean, the typical distributive marker is -씩 (-ssik), which attaches to a numeral phrase combined with a noun to form a distributive numeral. In contrast, Modern Mongolian expresses distributivity by repeating the base numeral and attaching an instrumental case suffix to the second occurrence of the numeral, thereby serving as a distributive marker. Based on this comparative analysis, this study seeks to integrate the realization patterns and co-occurrence relations of distributive meaning in reduplicated forms from both morphological and syntactic perspectives. Furthermore, it argues that distributivity and plurality are conceptually distinct and aims to provide a comprehensive elucidation of the distributive meaning expressed through reduplication.
